“Dil Dhadakne Do” Starring Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Rahul Bose; directed by Zoya Akhtar; music by Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy.
The talented young director of “Luck by Chance” and “Zindagi Na Milenge Dobara” delivers this much- awaited family drama featuring a talented multi-star cast. Escape on a summer vacation through the beautiful locales of the Mediterranean with the stylish, dysfunctional bunch. Anil Kapoor looks closer to his age as he sports some gray hair as Kamal Mehra, patriarch of the family. The far-too-young-to-be playing a mother, Shefali Shah, is his wife Neelam. Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh portray their children, Ayesha and Kabir. On a family cruise to celebrate their anniversary, Kamal and Neelam are prepared for their son to follow the family business, but he has different wishes. Anushka Sharma is an aspiring dancer working on the cruise ship who encourages Kabir to pursue his dreams. While the parents are ready for Kabir to settle down, they hope their daughter’s marriage to Manav, played by Rahul Bose, doesn’t fall apart. Farhan Akhtar plays Sunny, who becomes the third wheel in Ayesha’s life. The picturesque locations of France, Spain, Italy, Tunisia and Turkey, rocking soundtrack by Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy and witty dialogues are a few reasons this film is on my must-see list.
“Hamari Adhuri Kahaani” Starring Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi, Rajkummar Rao; directed by Mohit Suri; music by Ami Mishra, Jeet Gannguli and Mithoon.
Mahesh Bhatt wrote this romantic drama, which was inspired by his parents’ love story. Brought to life by the director of the superhit “Aashiqui 2,” the film shows a passion of unrequited love between two people who can't stop longing for each other despite realities pulling them apart. One of our favorites, the immensely talented Vidya Balan, portrays Vasudha, a character who’s fighting several personal battles. She’s trapped in a loveless marriage to Hari, played by Rajkummar Rao, who won a National Award for “Shahid.” Her life takes a dramatic turn, which changes everything. Emraan Hashmi plays Aarav, her love interest. The film is about Vasudha’s struggle as she falls in love with Aarav after her husband disappears for several years before entering her life again. Vasudha and Aarav want to be united but can’t because of deeply-ingrained societal values. Expect intense performances from all three actors. The poignant songs convey the essence of the story and the director has said the music is the soul of the film.
