  BRIGHT, VIVID COLORS ARE IN
By Kiran Bahl

Happy New Year. Its time to begin things anew, a time for fresh starts What could be more refreshing than dressing up in lively, vibrant and intoxicating colors that rejuvenate your mind and spirit?

OK, so right now, bright, vivid colors are still in! Sure, we all loved the blue/orange, yellow/fuschia, and green/yellow patterns that cropped up in runways last season, but at some point, we wondered if solid colored looks would ever return And now they have. Only think loud solid colors Turquoise, orange, fuschia and lime green solids should be on your mind. Youd generally think winter deserves drab, neutrals like black, white, or beige, but the brighter the color, the hotter youll look and feel. Even saris are concentrating on matching the sari color with the blouse, creating a lengthy, flattering look. Try the new look in pantsuits. The kurta is not as short as before, and the pants are straighter looking, creating a sleek, slim look on anyone. Gone are the wide, boot-cut styles, which further shrunk petite figures, ending in a short, frumpy feel. The ideal outfit would be to pair a solid-colored pantsuit encrusted with gold or silver sequins or a contrasting colored embroidery pattern, with same color shoes and gold/silver jewelry.

Less is more. Jewelry is taking a much simpler approach than ever before. Just a pair of jhumka earrings or a set of bangles on just one wrist is plenty. There is no need for super-heavy necklaces and tikkas. The movie Kyun Ki has us watching Kareena Kapoor in plain, easy clothing. Focus on that type of look, its very much in, and quite elegant looking. Exotic jewelry stone colors are taking a backseat this time. Little color and more gold and silver looks are in, helping a one colored pantsuit, lehnga or sari pop out.

Men, get rid of those Jodhpuris, and focus on more classic, Old World designs. Sherwanis, now especially inspired from the movie Waqt, are the rage, with even a dupatta added for much effect. Sure, the hardest part to pull off when wearing these creations are the shoes, as the traditional, camel-hide choices are quite uncommon, but match the sherwani with some casual loafers, and youre ready to go.

We wish you a happy, healthy and fun 2006. Keep your list of resolutions and stick to them. And as always, remember to gro with style!
