“Bajirao Mastani” Starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Tanvi Azmi; directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali; music by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
The director of “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,” “Devdas,” “Black,” and “Ram-Leela” delivers the story of the popular Maratha warrior in his latest grand production. Some context for those unfamiliar with this historical period, Bajirao was a valiant and skilled leader who was named prime minister or “Peshwa” at a young age to the fourth Maratha emperor in 1720. He fought many battles, never losing and expanded the Maratha empire. Mastani was his second wife, who was equally skilled in martial arts, music and dance. Historians disagree on the specifics but their love story is one for the ages. Ranveer Singh plays Bajirao. Priyanka Chopra stars as his first wife Kashibai and Deepika Padukone plays Mastani. The magnificent scale and grandeur of the film will be best enjoyed on the big screen. Bhansali has said he’s been yearning to tell this intense love story for years and his dream was realized after a decade. Like he did in “Guzaarish” and “Ram-Leela,” the multi-talented director has also composed the music, which is sure to be a sensation as is the film.
“Dilwale” Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhavan, Kriti Sanon; directed by Rohit Shetty; music by Pritam Chakraborty.
This entertainer promises to be high on emotions, action and comedy. After a gap of five years and much to the delight of their legions of fans, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be seen together as Raj and Meera, looking gorgeous as ever. Raj is the doting big brother of Veer played by Varun Dhavan. Newcomer Kriti Sanon, last seen in “Heropanti,” plays Ishita, Veer’s love interest. The plot, which has been kept under wraps, appears to have elements of intrigue and angst shown at various picturesque locations, including Bulgaria and Iceland. And yes, there are lots of fancy cars. Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi are featured as father to Raj and Meera respectively. The music by Pritam has been climbing the charts. Whether you’re a fan of Rohit Shetty style of filmmaking a la “Golmaal, “Singham” and “Chennai Express,” or can’t wait to see Kajol and Shah Rukh together again, “Dilwale” hopes to rule hearts this holiday season.
