“Ki & Ka” Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Swaroop Sampat, Rajat Kapoor; directed by R. Balki; music by Illaiyaraaja, Mithoon, Meet Bros Anjjan.
This romantic comedy from the writer/director of “Shamitabh,” “Paa” and “Cheeni Kum” tackles gender stereotypes with some laughs. Paired together for the first time, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor play Kia and Kabir, a couple with contrasting ideologies. Their relationship challenges the gender roles of men and women in the Indian society. Easygoing Kabir wants to build the home while Kia is an ambitious marketing manager who wants to build her career. Swaroop Sampat plays Kia’s mother. The joy, struggles, the steps taken to resolve the conflicts are not unlike the traditional roles of couples usually seen on screen. The film is about showing that regardless of role reversals, the problems are the same and ultimately the gender doesn't matter. Watch for Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan who are featured in extended cameos. The film has been highly praised on social media after special advance screenings.
“Fan” Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Waluscha D’Sousa, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Deepika Amin, Yogendra Tiku, Sayani Gupta; directed by Maneesh Sharma; music by Vishal-Shekhar.
This much-awaited Yash-Raj production features Shah Rukh Khan in two roles, Gaurav, the adoring young fan and Aryan Khanna, the cinema superstar. Gaurav’s everyday life revolves around the movie star or God as he refers to him. From his hometown of Delhi, Gaurav journeys to Mumbai, the city of dreams, to wish his idol on his birthday. He considers himself Aryan’s biggest fan and even has a resemblance. How difficult could it be for the biggest fan to get an audience with the world’s biggest star? When events don't unfold as desired, Gaurav’s adoration turns in to a dangerous obsession. The makers call it an “edge of the seat thriller.” The film reveals Gaurav and Aryan’s personalities as they discover their deepest selves. Who will you sympathize with and root for, the fan or the superstar? Oscar winning special makeup effects artist Greg Cannom is responsible for Khan's transformative look. The theme song “Jabra fan” has been recorded in several languages, including Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil and Marathi.
