TAMPA GSTB SENIORS PRESENT A COMEDY SKIT

Story provided by Smita Shah, GSTB Seniors Event Chair
Local artist of Tampa Bay came together at Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay (GSTB) Seniors Friends group event at India Cultural Center to perform a comedy skit, “Zindagi - Fari ek vaar” on Sept. 11. Through this skit, they attempt to draw attention toward a growing concern in society. Today’s youngsters are moving more and more away from home and seniors (parents/grandparents) are living a longer life. If a senior loses a partner, it leaves a void in life and longing for a companion for physical and mental well-being. The idea of remarrying or finding a companion after a certain age is less often considered as an option, which the play examines.
“Zindagi - Fari ek vaar” attempts to bring awareness to society for the need of companionship for seniors living a solitude life. The play was directed by Heena Thakkar. Artists included Gautam Thakkar, Mahesh Modha, Kusum Patel, Manoj Pandya, Bhikhubhai Nayi and Bharti Desai.

GSTB Seniors Friends meet the first Wednesday of every month at India Cultural Center, 5511 Lynn Road, Tampa, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; $10 for GSTB members, $15 for non-members; lunch and entertainment. For information, call Mahesh Modha at (813) 476-1540.
