TAMPA SANATAN MANDIR, MARATHI MANDAL TO CELEBRATE GANESHOTSAV SEPT. 13-22
Last year, Saarvajanik Ganeshotsav was celebrated in Tampa by Sanatan Mandir in collaboration with Maayboli Melawa (Marathi Mandal) Tampa Bay (MMTB).The highlight was a procession from the Sanatan Mandir carrying the special clay idol in palki (palanquin) on the day of Visarjan. Heavy rains could not stop about 90 participants of the parade from singing and dancing to the beats of dhol (large drum) and lezim (folk dance). The idol was taken to the bay riding on a Water Taxi in the Hillsborough River for immersion as per EPA guidelines and with special approval.
Now that it has established this tradition in Tampa Bay, the mandir and MMTB will once again celebrate Ganesh festival from Sept. 13. Visarjan (immersion) will be on Sept. 22, similar to the procession that carries Lord Ganesh to the Hillsborough River.

POWERUN 5K RUN/WALK SEPT. 23 IN LUTZ/TAMPA AREA
Tampa King High school students Riya Patel and Anya Patidar have organized a non-competitive POWERUN 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 23. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Lake Park (shelter #3), 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Lutz.
The event is committed to raising money for Girl Up, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation dedicated to achieving gender equality. Girl Up works toward providing a better life for girls all over the world. Cost is $10 per participant and sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m.
