Ayesha Takia Azmi befriends Ranvijay Singh in “Mod.”

Ayesha Takia Azmi repairs a watch in “Mod.”

“Mod” Starring Ayesha Takia Azmi, Raghubir Yadav, Ranvijay Singh, Tanvi Azmi; directed by Nagesh Kukunoor; music by Tapas Relia.

Whether it’s “3 Deewarein” “Iqbal” or “Dor,” director Nagesh Kukunoor’s films are on my list of favorites. This time, he brings us a love story. “Mod,” which he also wrote, stars Ayesha Takia Azmi as Aranya, a young woman residing in a quiet hill station town called Ganga, home to a bevy of characters. Her father, Ashok, played by Radhubir Yadav, is head of the local Kishore Kumar fan club. Tanvi Azmi is Gayatri, Aranya’s aunt and confidant, who runs a restaurant. When she was a little girl, Aranya’s mother left to pursue her dreams in the city. Both father and daughter hope for her return someday. To support herself, Aranya runs a watch repair shop. One day, Andy, a shy stranger played by Ranvijay Singh, comes to have his watch fixed. Andy returns day after day needing some watch repair. After a series of meetings, their romance develops. But who is Andy and what is his past? The story takes a dramatic sharp turn when Aranya discovers the truth. The makers promise a love story with a twist … “when love happens, life takes a turn.”

Shah Rukh Khan plays superhero G.One in “Ra.One.”

Kareena Kapoor and Armaan Verma
are mother-son in “Ra.One.”

“Ra.One” Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Armaan Verma, Shahana Goswami, Satish Shah, Dalip Tahil, Tom Wu; directed by Anubhav Sinha; music by Vishal-Shekhar.

This science-fiction based, action-packed family entertainer just in time for Diwali means excitement for Shah Rukh fans everywhere, I included. Khan has said Ra.One is the modern, new age technology version of our mythological Raavan, while G.One is a superhero who saves mankind from Ra.One's torment. Full of special effects and animation, Shah Rukh Khan plays a curly-haired software engineer, Shekhar Subramaniam, and the suave superhero, G.One, which stands for the “Good One.” Kareena Kapoor plays his wife, Sonia, a talented writer with a hot temper. Armaan Verma is their young son, Prateek, who thinks Shekhar is totally not cool nor up with the times. Shekhar attempts in many ways to win his son’s approval and finally succeeds when he designs the best game ever. The family is soon coming together only to find them in a crash that could spell disaster as the game starts playing them instead of the other way around. Reportedly, Khan has performed most of the stunts himself. Watch for special appearances from Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra. The rocking soundtrack is sure to be hit, listen for “Chammak Challo,” sung by Akon.
