Is it hot enough yet? Humid enough? Good news. Fashion is all about cotton, cotton gauze and linen fashions (yeah!) this season. Light chiffons, georgettes and even crepe silks (blended) are the rage. Want even better news? You can wear these airy fabrics to the best of any occasions – weddings included.

Kurtis and skirts are still in top form … The latest Bohemian looks include fuller, gauzier skirts in solid colors, especially pure white. White is obviously ‘the’ color of summer this year. Flaunt a long, flowy white skirt with a fitted kurti (Ladies, you can even wear white with white). Kurtis have remained simple, and have now taken the comfort route even more and become short-sleeved, if not sleeveless, altogether. Bright, bold colors are here to stay. Try a lime green or vivid yellow kurti with a white skirt to create the best sunshine-filled summer look.

When wearing these long skirts, note wearing long heels with the look is in. The shoe of the season is the wedge. Try these easy-to-balance shoes or a small 1- to 2-inch heel to create a little height. Contrasting your shoe color to the outfit can make your look ‘pop.’

For functions, ladies, especially weddings and such, white and black are generally frowned upon, but not anymore. Being white is completely ‘in;’ try a white or even an off-white sari or salwar kameez/churidaar with colored embroidery or sequin work to offset the color and create a stark contrast. Churidaars are the most popular fashion staple on all the runways now in India, and will remain so for months to come. Short sleeves are being replaced with cap sleeves or tear-drop sleeves to create a different appearance. Collared styles are dwindling away. Low and wide necks are blossoming back in to leave room for the most wonderful accessory this time of year: the necklace.

Jewelry is too easy this time around. A super-fancy necklace sans earrings is the way to go. Finish the look with fancy bangles and you’re ready to mingle. If too many bangles aren’t your thing, opt for a couple of gold ones on one hand, and try leaving the other hand free of any jewels at all. Even a light bracelet-with-attached-ring on one hand is enough to grab attention. One thing to definitely not worry about at all is hair. Messy hair is stylish hair! Loose buns, casual braids, and just wavy, bed-head looks create a sexy illusion.

For our gentleman, kurtis are back. From cotton to linen looks, a simple kurti (long or short sleeved) with some abstract or unique embroidery paired with a pair of jeans or khakis can have you ready for any gathering in no time. For weddings and receptions, opt for a Jodhpuri, but unlike the women’s white frenzy, aim for black or navy blue looks to contrast your lady’s looks. Even a light Sherwani dressed up with a dark, contrasting dupatta can make you the best dressed man of the evening.

Florida weather is hot, in fact, hotter than hot! But, we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t favor it. To some, it reminds us of the weather back home. And we all love home. Enjoy the sun, party safe, and as always, remember to gro with style!
