Sonam Kapoor encourages Farhan Akhtar in “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag."

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” Starring Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Dalip Tahil, Art Malik, and Prakash Raj; directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra; music by Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy.

This film tells the true story of the “Flying Sikh,” a world-champion runner and Olympian, Milkha Singh. The title comes from the last words spoken by Milkha’s father, to save his life during the riots of India-Pakistan partition. After many lucrative offers, Milkha Singh reportedly sold his story rights to the “Rang De Basanti” director for 1 rupee, with the hope to motivate and inspire a new generation. Director Mehra says the film is not about sports or trophies but the triumph of human spirit, which others should learn from. Farhan Akhtar went through rigorous physical training to portray the runner, who overcame the massacre of his entire family and homelessness to become one of India’s most iconic athletes. The story conveys his perseverance and courageous human spirit taking us on his journey through a bloody civil war, a lost childhood, and petty crimes to reach hard won victories. Sonam Kapoor plays the captain of India’s women's volleyball team, Nirmal Kaur, who brings a change in Milkha’s life by encouraging him to stop stealing and join the army. Southern star Prakash Raj plays a strict yet friendly commanding army officer who shapes Milkha's personality. Cricketer Yuvraj Singh's actor-father Yograj Singh, plays Milka’s coach. Milkha flies, falls, and rises, never losing his will to survive.
