OVER 500 ATTEND SANATAN MANDIR FUNDRAISER IN TAMPA

SANATAN MANDIR FUNDRAISERThe laughter and singing and excitement was palpable as more than 500 of Tampa’s bustling community came together to raise funds for the Sanatan Mandir’s new building. The temple has functioned out of a modest, one-story building since its inception. As the congregation rapidly outgrew the space, the leadership crafted a vision for a traditionally-crafted, 10,600-square-foot mandir with Shikars reaching 52 feet high. The challenge has been translating that vision into a reality. On July 19, fundraising event attendees where shown just how this challenge would not only be met but, with the help of Tampa’s Indian community, exceeded.

SANATAN MANDIR FUNDRAISERThe fundraiser provided attendees with a chance to relax and enjoy the music of Shankhachur Lahri and his group, followed by soul-stimulating “bhakti madhurum” bhajans and ghazals by Shailendra Bharti. However, the sense of responsibility and possibility was also present in the room. Temple President Pankaj Patel and fundraising committee chair Dr. Dipak Shah reveled in the solid progress already made toward raising nearly half of this year’s fundraising goal, but also acknowledged just how far is left to go before achieving the $1.5 million needed. Dr. Kiran C. Patel moved the packed house with an inspiring speech that rallied the community members around a central purpose: engaging even more of Tampa’s Indian community in an effort to build this institution to pass along heritage to future generations of Tampa residents, Indian and non-Indian alike.
