APRIL 2012
Khaas Baat : A Publication for Indian Americans in Florida

By NITISH S. RELE and SHEPHALI J. RELE

Did you know that Jacksonville is among a handful of cities outside the major metropolitan areas experiencing a South Asian population boom? It’s no wonder that this northeastern city in the gorgeous Sunshine State is bustling with activities. Take the April 29 Pankaj Udhas concert at Robinson Theater, University of North Florida (story, page 1). Then there’s the Melodious Musical Evening with singer Yesudas on May 13 at Florida Theatre as well as a host of other upcoming events (events, page 9).

This month, we profile Swapna Komarraju, founder and director of Srishti Dance Academy in the Wesley Chapel/New Tampa area. Her academy is holding “Trishna: A Bollywood Ballet” fundraiser on April 22 (story, page 15). We urge everyone to support the charity venture, which will benefit Asraah in India.

Community organizers, remember to drop us an e-mail about future events in your town. Khaas Baat is proud to be the ONE AND ONLY Sunshine State publication to offer comprehensive coverage of happenings in your Florida Indian community.
